Below you will find descriptions of the different levels of skating we offer and what is required to achieve each level for both figure skating and power skating.
Figure Skating Badges
Pre-Beginner
- sitting down and getting up
- balance and posture
- falling down
- two foot jumping on the spot
- turning on the spot (both directions)
- forward skating across width of ice (alternate feet)
Beginner
- left push-off (forward glide for three counts)
- right push-off (forward glide for three counts)
- step sequence (one count per step, minimum of six steps)
- half snowplow stop (left foot in)
- half snowplow stop (right foot in)
- upright two foot glide into half sitting glide
- backward two foot skating (L/R L/R or R/L R/L)
Elementary
- two-foot spin (min of two rotations)
- left push-off, right glide for four count, left stop
- right push-off, left glide for four count, right stop
- forward two-foot glide on a curve
- forward one-foot glide on a curve
- backward two foot skating (eight consecutive push glide sequences)
- two-foot turn (forward to backward)
- two-foot turn (backward to forward)
- forward stroking across width of ice (two strokes per glide) with half snowplow stop
- slalom (forward in any manner)
Basic
- Forward bunny hop (left or right foot)
- Forward circle thrusts (clockwise)
- Forward crosscuts- clockwise (minimum six consecutive)
- Two foot jump (forward to backward)
- LFO - LBI three turn
- RFO - RBI three turn
- Forward stroking across width of ice (four counts per glide) half snowplow stop
- Backward two-foot skating across width of ice (alternate push-glide sequence)
Novice 1
- Forward spiral in a straight line - left foot
- Forward spiral in a straight line - right foot
- Backward one foot glide (four counts per glide, on alternate feet, minimum of four push-glide sequences)
- Backward half snowplow stop (LBI)
- Backward half snowplow stop (RBI)
- Two-foot jump - backwards and forwards
- LBI-RFI Mohawk
- RBI-LFI Mohawk
- Forward outside edge
Novice 2
- Backward circle thrusts with RBO glide for two count- counter clockwise
- Backward cross cuts- counter clockwise, minimum of six consecutive
- Backward circle thrusts with LBO glide for two count- clockwise
- Backward crosscuts- clockwise minimum of six consecutive
- LBO-RFO Mohawk
- RBO-LFO Mohawk
- Waltz Jump
- Forward inside edges
- Slalom (edges or crosscuts, forwards and/or backwards)
Novice 3
- LFO-LBI Three Jump
- RFO-RBI Three Jump
- Forward two-foot parallel side stop - left
- Forward two-foot parallel side stop - right
- Backward circle thrusts with LBO glide for four count - clockwise
- Backward outside edges
- Forward crosscuts/LFO-LBI three turn/backward crosscuts/RBO-LFO Mohawk on counter clockwise circle. Repeat minimum three times.
- Forward crosscuts/RFO-RBI three turn/backward crosscuts/LBO-RFO Mohawk on clockwise circle. Repeat minimum of three times.
- LFI-RBI Mohawk
- Forward cross cuts/RFI-LBI Mohawk/backward crosscuts/LBI-RFI Mohawk on a counter clockwise circle. Repeat a minimum of three times.
Novice 4
- Backward inside edges
- LBO-LBI three turn/RBO edge on a counter clockwise circle. Repeat a minimum of four times
- RFO-RBI three trun/LBO edge on a clockwise circle. Repeat a minimum of four times
